World's Biggest Problems

I'm going to go ahead and list ten problems in the world that I personally believe to be of the most grave importance. Also, these are in no particular order.

1. Refugee crisis in the middle east.
I think it is safe to assume that the majority of us have at least heard a little bit about the refugee crisis in the middle east. Believe it or not this problem affects us just as much as them. I believe that the best way to approach this is to come united as a world and have our leaders discuss a way to divide up how many refugees each country will take and so on.
2. Political unrest in Syria and ISIS.
This one is very close related to the first one because most of the refugees are fleeing Syria. For this problem we must find a common ground with Russia and finally bring together everyone to be able to find a concrete solution to end the political unrest and for once bring down ISIS. The here will be whether or not we will be able to work with Russia or not.
3. Just everything about Venezuela's government and its economy.
This one is personal to me because I was born there and lived there until I was 10. So, coming from Venezuela and having family there brings me closer to this issue and helps me understand it. explaining this in the most simple way would be to tell you that the current president, Nicolas Maduro a is communist who was left in charge by our deceased previous president Hugo Chavez (also a communist). Together they have managed to rob the country of everything. The country has no money, no food, and no future. Thankfully a solution is already in the works. Last month, the people of Venezuela successfully voted down the established government in the congressional elections and secured a 3 to 1 majority in the National Assembly. Hopefully this means the tide is finally turning for a country that has endured socialism for over 18 years.
4. Melting of the polar ice caps.
The shrinking of the Ozone layer due to the increasing amount of greenhouse gases caused by the burning of fossil fuels has led to the melting of the polar ice caps. This should be a huge concern to everyone because this will lead to a significant increase in sea level which could lead to deadly flooding. Florida may not even be on the map if it continues! The is a very easy solution to this and it is called: Green energy.
5. Autism.
I personally cannot say much about autism because I don't know a whole lot about it, but I have heard some very concerning numbers out there. So, apparently every year the number of kids born with autism is increasing. This is extremely concerning because it is a disease that can be very difficult for families to deal with. As far a solution goes, all I can say is that scientists are working on cures and all we can do at this point is raise awareness and raise money.
6. Nuclear weapons
I think this one just about explains itself. We really should not have nuclear weapons. There is no reason why any country should have these, especially when you consider that they have to the power to wipe out whole countries. Unfortunately, there is no easy solution for this and it will be very difficult to get countries to just dismantle them and carry on.
7. Global population
We really have a lot of people on earth right now. We must continue to inform everyone about ways to prevent unplanned pregnancies and to teach communities that aren't informed about the dangers of the increasing global population.
8. Drinking water
I believe this is an issue that a lot of us take for granted. Its crazy that even in advanced nations,
like the US, there is still people without access to free safe drinkable water. Type in on google             "Flint, Michigan" and you will understand what I'm talking about. More importantly, there's                 people in undeveloped nations that don't  have access to water at all.
9. World hunger
This is a huge issue. I'm dealing with it right now...but in all seriousness we must find a way for everyone on earth to have access to three meals a day. Its going to be a challenge but there's a lot of wonderful organizations that are working on this. As citizens of the world, we must contribute to these and help our fellow citizens.
10. Social Media
Look, I know this is not the most important issue but given that everyone will have those covered I'm going to take the opportunity to call out everyone that is obsessed with social media (including myself). We can't continue to wake up every morning and checking: facebook, twitter, instagram, snapchat, etc. There are so many of them that we can't even keep track of. We gotta live people to people. Not smartphone to smartphone.

  1. Hi Gabriel! I think you listed very relevant and pressing issues in your top 10 list. I liked how your list covered a wide range of issues, both relating to humanity and the environment. I also liked how you included your personal connection to the Venezuelan crisis!
We had a lot of similar ideas for our lists, you can check out my blog post if you want!

  2. Hey Gabriel, I agree with your post and you mentioned a few problems that I didn't even think about. I especially like the social media one and I agree with you completely. As in regard to the autism problem, it is a not a disease but a disorder and it is unique to everyone that has it, making so much harder to cure. Keep up the good work! Here is my post if you feel like checking it out: http://chrisblogent.blogspot.com/2016/01/worlds-biggest-problems.html
