Once I have them talking to me and I have given them the dollar the question I asked was "Now, what would you rather have in your hand instead of this dollar?"
As you will see in the following videos not all of them wanted to accept the dollar right away, and were quite skeptical about someone giving away money.
As you can imagine, not all of my attempts were successful. Personally, I thought this assignment would be a lot easier than it was, and that I would have no problem getting rid of my 5 one dollar bills, but it did take me only about 5 minutes to get rid of the money!
Here are my successful attempts:
Given that I was going to target people that had just finished working out, I had originally predicted that people would say they'd rather have something like Gatorade or a protein shake. I also thought about the possibility of people saying they would rather have more than just one dollar.
I was correct for 3 out of the 5. Although it was quite surprising that one of my interviewees only wanted $5, unlike the girl that asked for a cool million.
Up to this point this has been the coolest exercise of all! It was a lot of fun and definitely worth the five dollars.
Here are my "bloopers":
P.S.: Can you believe those guys gave me my money back? I thought it was hilarious ! Also, a special thanks to my roommate Sebastian for filming this.
Hi Gabriel! I love that you posted all the videos for your free money assignment. I love that you convinced them to talk to you, and kept them talking. It was interesting watching the interactions! Also, that’s crazy that someone tried to give it back to you! I had one person offer, but they did it as they walked away so I don’t think they meant it. Anyway, good job! Here’s my post if you wanted to take a look: http://youreamuggle.blogspot.com/2016/02/free-money.html
ReplyDeleteHey Sebastian! This looked like it was a lot of fun! I really liked your plan of approaching the people. I knew some people would be really confused of why you were doing this. However it looks like you did a great job with your experiment since you gave almost all the dollars away.
ReplyDeleteHey, Gabriel. I think your approach of asking them what they'd rather have is intriguing. It helps them participate much more easily, and lets them think about their own wants/needs/convenience. I'd bet that you could even develop a whole separate business plan just based off collecting the data of what most people are wanting as they're exiting the gym, if you were to continue this experiment.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed your post. I thought your videos were entertaining and also revealing. I think it was interesting to see your successful attempts and your not so successful attempts. I also enjoyed that you got deeper with the people who accepted the dollar, finding out what they would value more, I think it would have been interesting to hear what people other than students would have said.
ReplyDeleteThat was really cool! Thank you for sharing! I can't believe those guys gave you your money back either. I never thought it would be so hard to hand out free money! It was pretty funny that he guessed it was for a class though. It was really interesting to see the range of answers, from as simple as a protein shake to a million dollars! I really liked your idea. I also loved how you included your failed attempts. Thanks for sharing with us! Good job!
ReplyDeleteYou have made the best free money video I have seen so far. You clearly put a decent amount of time and effort into it. You were able capture genuine reactions and all the confusions of the people that you filmed. I also really liked that you had a blooper real and I enjoyed watching them. It was pretty interesting that when you asked what they wanted more than a dollar, that a few of them said more money. Good job.
ReplyDeleteHello Gabriel,
ReplyDeleteThis was definitely a difficult assignment. It's interesting that you included both successful and not successful attempts at giving out money. Your approach definitely affected the reaction of the people you talked to. Even giving the money back to you, that was amusing. The bloopers were very entertaining. You did a very good job. Unfortunately, I did not complete this assignment because I did not have any money.
Good job!
Hi Gabriel! First off, I love how you added the bloopers! Haha made the assignment even more fun! It was interesting to watch all of the reacting and its great that you were actually able to have a conversation with them! This is certainly one of my favorite "Free Money" blog posts that I have seen! Great job!
